Coming Home

From Lorimer’s notes: “The Great War was a dark, ugly stain on humanity, with more death than we had ever seen before. Few paintings in the Project Remembrance collection fall on the lighter side of the ledger but Coming Home is the exception.

“I wanted — no, I needed — to lighten the tone a little for my own sanity. This was one of the last paintings in the series and I was determined to kindle some joy to illuminate the darkness.”

The original painting has been sold.
